About us
Formed over 100 years ago, Blewbury and District Brass Band is a friendly and inclusive village band, and is the local brass band for the area surrounding Didcot, the Hendreds, the Hagbournes, the Moretons…and Blewbury (just south of Didcot). We play 15-20 events each year and can be heard playing at local fetes, parks and community events (such as free concerts in the Blewbury “Ticker’s Folly” bandstand, Remembrance Sunday, and carols on Christmas Eve).
Players of all levels and ages are welcomed into either our Main Band, which rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30, or our Learner Band (for learners of all ages, from grade 1 up to grade 5+) which rehearses each Wednesday from 6.30 – 7.15. See the rehearsal schedule for more information. We also run a touring band for young players in the region: Blewbury Youth Brass. This band undertook a tour to Germany over the summer and was very successful at the ODBBA Entertainment Contest 2017.
We are particularly keen to encourage young players to take up a brass instrument, and are becoming increasingly active in this direction. For example, the band has raised funds to buy 25 cornets so that (with tuition generously paid for by the school) a whole class at Blewbury Primary School are now learning to play a brass instrument.
If you would like to make a donation to help us grow our Learner activities (to buy instruments and fun/motivational music), just text 70070 with BAND25 and the amount you would like to donate. So, if you would like to donate £50, text BAND25 £50 to 70070. Being a Registered Charity, you’ll then be asked if you would like to add Gift Aid! 100% of your donation will reach the band. What could be simpler?
The band plays, and are available, throughout the year for public and private functions but we get quite busy over the summer months. Click here to find out more…
