0 bbb rehearsing at St Birinus School
The band will be rehearsing with the St Birinus School wind band this evening (Wednesday 27 March) in the SBS school hall, in preparation for a “massed band performance” at the school’s Annual Concert on Wednesday 24 April.
Band members are asked to arrive at 7.15 so playing can start promptly at 7.30. Martin will ensure that stands and music pads are brought over from the band hut.
0 Learner Band concert with Oxfordshire County Music Service
Blewbury Learner Band played at a concert on Saturday 2 March 2013, held at South Moreton School, alongside brass players learning with the Oxfordshire County Music Service.
A total of 26 players, including a handful of adult “helpers” from the Blewbury Brass Band, got their instruments out (trumpets, cornets, flugel horn, tenor horns, baritones, a euphonium, trombones and an Eb tuba) and played a selection of music some well-known and others composed especially for the event. Two members of Blewbury Learner Band played two duet pieces, on the Eb horn and Eb tuba.
The OCMS students were conducted by James Sinden, the county brass teacher, and the Blewbury Learner Band were conducted by Ian Barlow.
From the looks on their faces and from the volume of their clapping, the audience of more than 40 parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends, enjoyed themselves enormously.
0 Learner Band Concert at South Moreton School
The Blewbury Learner Band will be joined by learners from local schools for a concert, arranged jointly with the Oxfordshire County Music Service.
The concert will take place on Saturday 2 March at South Moreton School, starting at 2 o/c.
Parents, grandparent and friends will be most welcome – the more the merrier!
0 bbb at Hagbourne Church Christmas Tree Festival
An intrepid group played this afternoon to a highly appreciative audience during the Hagbourne Church Christmas Tree Festival. The band has sponsored a Christmas Tree this year, alongside beautifully decorated trees from 15 other local groups, organisations and businesses.
As well as playing carols as an ensemble, Ellie Mansbridge played three duets (accompanied by Martin Holliss). Ellie has been learning the Eb tenor horn for just 6 months, and is well on the way to being an extremely good player.
0 Carols at Hagbourne Church, during Christmas Tree Festival
The band will be playing carols (and, no doubt, other Christmassy music) at St Andrews Church, East Hagbourne on Sunday 16 December from 3 o/c to 4 o/c.
All around us will be Christmas trees that have been decorated by local organisations – a lovely fundraising idea. For the first time, the band has sponsored a tree – do look out for it!
0 Carols at Chilton Garden Centre Christmas Fayre
The band will be playing carols and other “Christmasy music” at the Chilton Garden Centre Christmas Fayre on Sunday 18 November, from 1130-1430.
Members of our Learner Band (some who go to Chilton School) will be playing with the band.
2 Step Up Band concert – Sunday 7 October
A free concert was given by 5 junior/training bands at the Didcot Civic Hall on Sunday 7 October 2012. Our very own “Step Up” Band performed (co-conducted by Grace and Ian), and joined a “Massed Band” finale with around 70 learner band players.
Arranged by the Oxfordshire & District Brass Band Association, the event was most enjoyable, and a great opportunity to showcase the achievement of local brass learners.
0 Free Concert – Ticker’s Folly Bandstand, Blewbury
We’re delighted to announce a Free Concert on Sunday 9 September 2012, provisionally from 2 o/c – 4 o/c, at Tickers Folly Bandstand, Boham’s Lane, Blewbury.
Bring a rug, and enjoy listening to your local brass band. Bring your children as well, to play on the playground swings, slide and climbing frames…and to make raucous noises on a full range of brass instruments!
0 Concert with Oxford County Music Service at East Hagbourne Primary School
The band continues to encourage local music talent and recently enjoyed performing alongside South Moreton School Brass Ensemble playing “Oh When the saints” in a joint concert with Oxford County Music Service at East Hagbourne Primary School.
