Sunday 23rd April 2017
ODBBA Festival, Marlborough School, Woodstock
Members of Blewbury Brass Band will be representing the band at the Oxfordshire and District Brass Band Association Festival. The festival has classes for all ages including solos, duets, quartets and ensembles. It is hoped that Blewbury band will turn out in force and we will come home with a few prizes. Please come and support us at this event.
Saturday 23rd April at 7pm in Blewbury Village Hall.
St George’s Day Concert
Come and enjoy an evening of English music with Blewbury Brass Band inspired by St George’s Day when we will be holding our annual spring concert.
The programme will include the popular march The Standard of St George, traditional English melodies and hymns, singing in the Rain (inspired by English weather!), Beatles and more.
Musical Director, Ian Barlow, says, ‘The concert will build on the success of our spectacular Christmas concert. The band has some new members and continues to go from strength to strength. It will also be an opportunity to hear out fabulous Learner Band’.
Tickets are priced at £7 (adults), £5 (seniors) and £1 (children) and are available on the door. To reserve tickets or for more information contact Judith Atkins firstname.lastname@example.org
Saturday 16th April, 2pm
Cornerstone Outdoor Concert and ‘Have a Blow’ event
The band is actively looking for new players (both young and old and complete beginners to experienced brass players). We are holding a promotional event outside the cornerstone to attract new members.
Come and listen to the young players in our Learner Band playing their favourite pieces. There will also be a ‘Have a Blow’ where you will be able to try some instruments used in the brass band and talk to members of the main band.
Saturday 19th March 2016, 7pm
‘The Rhythm of life’ Joint concert with Hagbourne Choir
Please join us in St Andrews Church, East Hagbourne for a joint concert with the Hagbourne Choir. The band will be performing a selection of pieces including Singing in the Rain, Eleanor Rigby, Floral Dance and Blaydon Races.
Tickets are available on the door priced at £6.
The band will be playing at the annual Blewbury Church Christmas Concert on Monday 21 December, which will start at 2000 (following a 1900 rehearsal). Do come along – Christmas in the village starts today, the church will be packed and the atmosphere will be relaxed, informal and fun.
Blewbury Brass Band will be playing in the Service of Remembrance at Blewbury Church on Sunday 8 November 2015, at 1100 and afterwards at the Blewbury War Memorial.
While a solemn occasion, this is an event that the band has for many years wished to be part of, and the tone of a brass band suits both the occasion and Blewbury Church perfectly.
What a lovely surprise!
When Ian and Judith were giving “small group” brass lessons to Year 5 at Blewbury School just before Half Term, the children and staff sprung a surprise – an enormous “Thank You Card” to the band (with a wonderful cutout silhouette of a cornet) for fundraising and buying 24 cornets to be used by the school.
What a pleasure to be able to contribute positively into music making in the local community. But let’s not forget that, while the band bought the instruments, Marion Mills, Headteacher at Blewbury School, has generously decided to fund the lessons.
Thank you again from the band, Marion!
Wow! Ian and Judith had fun last Saturday! Have a look at these photos!
Ian, Judith, Alex (who also teaches at Cholsey School) and Christine Mellers (mum of Adam and Katie, who play in the band) all took part in a 5k Mud Run.
The run (if that’s what it can be called, given the photos!) was to raise funds for Sam’s Musical Garden at Cholsey School. Do visit https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/judith-atkins-2 if you’re able to make a donation. So far about £850 has been raised (details of this can be found on the just giving page), both online and through cash donations.
