0 The Northbourne Centre
The Blewbury Leaner band were joined this weekend by an enthusiastic audience at the Northbourne Centre in Didcot. The band played some of their favourite lively pieces which included the theme to Scooby-Doo, Delilah and The Battle of Jericho. Although the audience declined Ian’s offer to dance along in our performance of the Can-can, they took up the challenge and clapped along during The Deadwood Stage (luckily avoiding any calamities)!
Thank you to the organisers for providing the audience with tea and cake during the interval. We had a lovely afternoon and hope you enjoyed listening. If you would like to listen the band again you can see our Main band play at the Didcot Hospital Fete on Monday 29th August, where we will start playing from 1:30.
0 Blewbury Picnic
The Blewbury Beginner and Learner Band played to family and friends in Ticker’s Folly this evening. The bands played a variety of pieces from ‘Amazing Grace’ to ‘Rock Around the Clock’, which provided a lovely setting for picnics on the grass. The audience were treated to a solo from William who debuted his Grade 4 exam piece ‘633 Squadron’, and we managed to keep the showers away with our performance of ‘Over the Rainbow’.
A fun evening was had by all, especially when it came to playing in the park after we’d finished. Thank you to everyone who came along, especially our friends who travelled all the way from America to listen! We hope you enjoyed your evening and hope to see you at our next concert.
1 Blewbury Brass Band plays at Wallingford Castle
The Blewbury Brass Band entertained listeners in a sunny Wallingford Castle Gardens earlier today. The band played a number of lively pieces which included solos from Martin on Flugel, and Bruce on Cornet. We were also lucky enough to be helped by some members of our audience who rattled, shook and jangled along in our performance of ‘Samba De Janiero’!
We had a lovely afternoon and were even treated to cake and tea from the organisers in our break. Thank you to everyone who came along to listen. We hope you enjoyed your afternoon and we look forward to playing for you again next year!
0 Learner Band and Beginner Band Concert
The Learner and Beginner bands presented their annual Spring Concert last night at Blewbury School. Approximately 40 people took part ranging in age from eight to adult. The Beginner Band opened the show with ‘Hoedown’ which was followed by two spirituals and a hymn tune. The Learner Band performed some of the new music it has been working on this term including ‘Texas Tango’ and ‘Rock Around the Clock’.
We were also joined by children from the Blewbury School Brass Group who entertained their parents with ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and ‘Old MacDonald’.Learner Band players Ben (trombone), Natalie (baritone), George (trumpet) and Jasper (tenor horn) all performed fantastic solos.
Members of the Wallingford Welsh Association also came along and very kindly donated £300 to the Learner Band for the purchase of instruments. Thank you! In honour of our Welsh visitors we finished the concert with a rousing rendition of ‘Delilah’.
