A great rehearsal from BYB today at Blewbury School. The Band was very enthusiastic and played with energy and vigour.
We tackled several new pieces including ‘Praise my Soul’, ‘Candyman’, ‘Hootenanny’ and ‘I will Follow Him’. Rachel wowed us with her beautiful playing of ‘When She loved Me’ and Thea proved herself a capable soloist in tackling ‘Desperado’. Front row cornets, Rory and George T, with the support of Amanda, coped admirably with ‘Trumpeter’s Lullaby’. Back row players were given an opportunity to take on the first parts in ‘Waltzing with Mary’ and ‘The Sound of Music’.
Towards the end of the day, we ran through the pieces we had worked on and still had the energy for lively renditions of ‘Slaidburn’ and ‘Wallace and Gromit’.
Thank you to the band for your efforts today, thanks to our adult helpers, including our new soprano cornet recruit, Bruce, and thanks to parents for continuing to support your children as they prepare for the course.
Blewbury Brass Band held its Annual General Meeting tonight and the band were delighted to recognise the contribution made by three of our players. The Musical Director’s Award (main band) was presented to Bruce Gallop. The Junior Player of the Year was awarded to Aidan Brzakalik. The Players’ Player Award went to Mary Napper. A special award was given to Rachel Waterman who was made “Band Ambassador”. Congratulations to them all!
