0 The sun shines at Didcot Hospital Fete!
For the first time in two years the sun shone for the Blewbury Brass Band at Didcot Hospital Fete. We treated audiences to some of our favourite tunes from this year’s summer programme which included ‘I’m gonna be (500 miles)’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. Lewis, our principal cornet, played the solo ‘Just the way you are’, and Bruce treated passers-by to ‘Solitaire’.
We would to thank the organisers for arranging some fantastic tea and cake. We hope you raised lots of money to support the excellent work of the hospital, and look forward to seeing you again next year.
0 BBB at Didcot Hospital Fete
Blewbury Brass Band are delighted to be playing at the Didcot Hospital Fete on Monday 29th August 2015.
The fete starts at 1.30 and will run until 4.00. This is a classic community fete, with a wide variety of stalls, with all funds raised going towards activities run and sponsored by the Friends of Didcot Hospital.
0 The Northbourne Centre
The Blewbury Leaner band were joined this weekend by an enthusiastic audience at the Northbourne Centre in Didcot. The band played some of their favourite lively pieces which included the theme to Scooby-Doo, Delilah and The Battle of Jericho. Although the audience declined Ian’s offer to dance along in our performance of the Can-can, they took up the challenge and clapped along during The Deadwood Stage (luckily avoiding any calamities)!
Thank you to the organisers for providing the audience with tea and cake during the interval. We had a lovely afternoon and hope you enjoyed listening. If you would like to listen the band again you can see our Main band play at the Didcot Hospital Fete on Monday 29th August, where we will start playing from 1:30.
0 Please support our Germany tour
Blewbury Brass Band is embarking on a new and exciting project to engage its young players. In the summer of 2017 we will be touring Germany with ‘Blewbury Youth Brass’. This band is mainly made up of children from our learner band but we have also invited other young players from local bands to share this magnificent opportunity to take British brass band music to our continental friends.
We will be joined by players from five other Oxfordshire bands; Cholsey Silver Band, Cholsey School Brass Band, Wantage Band, Abbey Brass (in Abingdon), and Yarnton Silver Band. Thirty-five musicians will be going on the trip ranging in age from 9 to 18 years.
The band will be staying in the beautiful town of Boppard which is situated on the banks of the river Rhine. During our stay we will be exploring the cultural heritage of the region which may include a trip to Beethoven’s birthplace, and a visit to a mechanical musical instrument museum. The band will be playing four concerts in churches, concert halls and open air venues. The tour will be lead by Blewbury Brass Band’s Ian Barlow and Judith Atkins.
To help keep the cost of the trip affordable, we are looking to local individuals and businesses for sponsorship. We will be putting on a concert in the local area upon our return, and will offer free tickets to all our sponsors. All sponsors will also be acknowledged in the concert programme and on our band website http://www.blewburybrassband.org.
There are many ways in which you can help us:
- A £5 donation will provide refreshments for the band or a uniform bow tie.
- A £10 donation will help with printing costs and publicity.
- A £20 donation will buy a Blewbury Youth Brass hoodie.
- A £30 donation will sponsor a piece of music for the band.
- A £50 donation will help towards our transport costs.
- A £200 donation will help towards an educational outing.
- A £500 donation will sponsor a place for one child on the tour.
