0 Blewbury Players Music Quiz sponsor the band’s “cornet fund”
Amazing news!
Every year, the Blewbury Players hold a Music Quiz in the Blewbury Village Hall (run by Peter Willison and Jeff Dawson), with proceeds donated to a charity that helps young people. Enormously generously, it was decided that half of the funds generated should be donated to the Blewbury Brass Band to buy cornets for the Blewbury School brass group.
A cheque for £827.74 was received by Martin Holliss in this morning’s post, enabling us to buy 3½ more cornets.
These instruments will be used over many years to launch several local children into a lifetime of playing music.
We now have 11½ cornets available and, while our target for the Blewbury School brass group is 20-30, this makes it almost possible to start a small group…prior, we hope, to morphing into a full size group.
HUGE thanks again to the Blewbury Players – true community spirit in action!
If you would like to make a donation to the band (eg to buy one cornet @ a cost of £250 each), please contact Martin Holliss, our treasurer (treasurer@blewburybrassband.org.uk / 07931 376501).
0 bbb at Hagbourne Christmas Fayre
The Blewbury Learner Band will be playing carols and other seasonal music today (Sunday 23 November) at the Hagbourne Christmas Fayre. The fayre takes place all day in the Hagbourne School and the Hagbourne Village Hall, and the Learner Band will be playing from 1 o/c to 1.30 and from 2.30 to 3 o/c in the Hagbourne Village Hall.
The Learner Band is formed of young people and adults, all of whom are learning to play a brass instrument. If you’d like to join the band, just ask on the day or click here for band contact details.
Do come along – there’s a wonderful array of highly-talented artisans, delicious jams/chutneys/etc, and lots more ideas for attractive Christmas presents!
0 Thank you to Carbon Colour…
HUGE thanks to Carbon Colour, digital colour printers on Milton Park near Didcot, (www.carbon.co.uk) for donating 100 sheets of light blue SRA3 card (a tad larger than A3) to the band.
Why did we need it? Well come along to our Christmas Concert in Blewbury Village Hall at 7.30 PM on Saturday 6 December to find out!
Tickets cost £5 (£1 if still at school), from Savages of Blewbury, Blewbury Post Office, Blewbury Service Station and Martin Holliss (treasurer@blewburybrassband.org.uk / 07931 376501).
With a Licensed Bar, there are rumours of Mince Pies and Mulled Wine (amongst other goodies)!
0 Help grow band funds “magically” with the click of a mouse!

These donations will be used to help buy more instruments for brass groups at Blewbury School and Hagbourne School.
As Christmas approaches, and with a large number of online purchases about to be made, if you have not yet registered to support Blewbury Brass Band at www.easyfundraising.org.uk… just visit www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/blewburybrass to sign up then install the “Donation Reminder” toolbar (www.easyfundraising.org.uk/raise-more/donation-reminder). 0 Bob and Jane Knight sponsor the band to buy a cornet for the Hagbourne School brass group
MANY thanks to Bob and Jane Knight for very generously making a £250 donation to sponsor the purchase of a cornet for the soon-t0-be-started Hagbourne School brass group. Theirs is the second cornet sponsorship from the Hagbournes and is MUCH appreciated.
Bob is a “main stay” of the Blewbury Brass Band, having played cornet and flugel in the band for 20 years, followed by 6 years as our last Musical Director (before Ian Barlow took over the baton). Few people have had as much positive impact on the band as Bob.
With the active support of Annette Crewe, Hagbourne School headteacher, our aim is to purchase 20 cornets to start a brass group at Hagbourne School.
Making it possible for local children to learn and play ensemble music is a WONDERFUL gift that will last the whole of their lifetime. If you would like to sponsor a cornet (at a cost of £250 each) do please contact Martin Holliss, Band Treasurer (treasurer@blewburybrassband.org.uk; 07931 376501).
Thank you!
