0 Father Christmas comes to Blewbury Playclose
The band will be playing carols and other Christmas music on the Playclose in the very heart of Blewbury from 1815, welcoming Father Christmas on his sleigh pulled by a merry team of local elves. If you can’t find the Playclose, just listen for the band and follow your ears (and the crowds)!
If it’s pouring with rain (or if the Playclose is cut off by 10 foot high snow drifts), Father Christmas is quite likely to take cover in the Blewbury Village Hall.
0 Huge thanks – bbb break carol fundraising record
Huge thanks to everybody who gave so generously during our caroling this Christmas. We received a total of just over £900 – an all-time record. These funds will enable us to buy several more learner band instruments, to enable more youths and adults to start playing a brass instrument (see https://blewburybrassband.org/learners/learner-band/).
The £932 total included a generous donation from Infineum for playing at their annual staff Carol Concert (attended by more than 50 people…and followed by delicious non-alcoholic mulled wine and stunningly-good mince pies made by talented Infineum pastry chef). We also came away with heavy collecting tins from the Goring and Streatley Golf Club Christmas Lunch, two caroling events at Waitrose Wallingford (where more mulled wine and mince pies were on offer) and two more caroling events at Sainsburys Didcot.
Thank you to Infineum, Goring and Streatley Golf Club, Waitrose and Sainsburys for having us – if you’ll have us, we’d love to return next year. Thank you also to all members of the band for playing, to Andrew for tackling several parts on his trombone in both treble and bass clef, to Claudia for both playing and shaking a collecting tin in time and most successfully, to Dave and Martin for playing at every caroling event, to Rosie and Sophia for making it back from school and music college, and to everybody who supported us and ferried players to & fro (you know who you are!).

0 Blewbury Brass Band raises £184.63 at Waitrose in Wallingford
Huge thanks to the hoards of generous customers at Waitrose in Wallingford for donations while we played carols today. While a bit cold, a chilly wind, and with only occasional sunny spells, Waitrose very kindly plied us with mulled wine and mince pies!
A total of £184.63 was raised, and this will go towards buying instruments for our burgeoning number of learner players.
Youth and adult learners are most welcome to join our Learner Band (Wednesday evenings from 1830 – 1930; usually 10-15 players, of all ages) and, yes, we can provide an instrument (for a very small annual fee) if you don’t already have one.
