0 bbb at the Oxfordshire Playday in Didcot
Blewbury Brass Band will be manning a “Have a Blow table” at the Oxfordshire Playday in Edmonds Park, Didcot, on Thursday 25 July.
This will be a chance for young people (and their parents) to try playing a brass instrument, from the (small) cornet through to the (largest of large) tuba! Previous events have been hugely enjoyed by those who have a go.
0 bbb at the Blewbury Allotments Barbecue
Blewbury Brass Band will be playing at the Blewbury Allotments Barbecue on Sunday 14 July from 1230 onwards.
This is a typical event for us – local, community…and good fun!
0 Alice Dawson plays the Bb tuba…and completes her musical challenge!
Alice has completed her challenge, playing a different brass instrument in each of her last 10 lessons – the Bb (pronounced B flat) tuba this time, the largest of all brass instruments. This instrument has made quite an impression on the children at school and Alice has been asked to bring it back for the last assembly of term on Monday.
The school has asked for music books from the ‘Music Express’ series which contains music that is photocopyable (is that word in the Oxford English Dictionary?!) and other materials for groups of child players and to help plan music lessons as well as for the school windband.
Alice is hoping to raise enough money to buy some other music books as well.
Please would you now give any sponsorship money that you have pledged, handing payments to the Manor School office in clearly marked envelopes, or to Dion Dawson at band practice.
If you prefer to make a payment online the bank account is Sort code 30 93 93 / Account number 18037268, with a payment reference of “Windband fundraising” and your name.
Thank you for your support over these last 10 weeks from Alice and other budding musicians at Manor School…
…and a big “Well Done, Alice” from Blewbury Brass Band!
0 STOP PRESS: 100% pass rate in recent music exams
We’re absolutely delighted to announce 1 100% pass rate amongst all those Blewbury Brass Band members who recently took a music exam. Hoorah!! More specific details will be posted in due course.
This demonstrates a fantastic Vote of Confidence in Ian Barlow, our accomplished and versatile band member and music teacher (private lessons offered every Saturday and Sunday; £15 per 30 minutes)…which is further demonstrated by Ian himself having passed his Grade 8 trombone exam at the first attempt with an exceptionally high Distinction (93 out of 100).
Bravo to one and all – real cause for celebration!
0 bbb at West Ilsley Fete
Blewbury Brass Band will be playing at the West Ilsley Fete on Sunday 7 July from 12 o/c to 4 o/c.
The venue for this fete is spectacular – a huge village green – and the fete always has a wide range of classic stalls and activities.
0 bbb at Didcot Civic Hall
Blewbury Brass Band will be attending the Twinning Ceremony between Didcot and Planegg (near Munich in Bavaria, Germany), at the Didcot Civic Hall on Saturday 6 July from 1430-1630.
While we will probably not be playing (since there is a wedding party at the same time on the same day!), we hope to make those present fully aware of who we are and what we do.
As the nearest brass band to Didcot (and having been given the uniforms, music and instruments of the Didcot Brass Band when it folded many years ago) hopefully the Blewbury Brass Band will be invited to play at future Didcot civic occasions and functions.
0 Alice Dawson plays the tuba
Crikey – Alice has been busy!
A member of Blewbury Brass Band, Alice Dawson is raising money to buy new music books and music related items for the newly-formed Windband at Manor School in Didcot. The more money she raises the more music related items can be bought for the children to enjoy music at Manor School. Would you please sponsor her to play a different brass instrument in each of 10 brass lessons ?
This is the 9th week and, as this photo shows, she has just played a full-size tuba….which is almost as large as she is!!
Just one more week to go. Which instrument might she be playing next week?
Please hand payments to the Manor School office in clearly marked envelopes, or give them to Dion Dawson at band practice, or make a payment online by BACS to bank account Sort code 30 93 93 / Account number 18037268, with a payment reference of “Windband fundraising” and your name.
Thank you from Alice, and other budding musicians at Manor School.
